Hello All,
Here at Nasuni, the anticipation and excitement of our beta period has given way to a full-throttle GA. Since the Nasuni Filer entered general availability in April, customers of all sorts have embraced the product, and the feedback on ease of use and performance has been terrific. Customers are unanimously pleased to see the Filer freeing up their existing infrastructure and their time. We are thrilled with this early validation of our product and of the appetite for cloud storage itself. Storage as a service is here, and these customers are leading the way to broader adoption. To these early adopters, I extend our deepest gratitude.
The momentum is building. Inspired by customer enthusiasm and by interest from partners and the enterprise, we have enlarged our roadmap to establish a broader range of partner programs and to expand our features aggressively to provide more functionality for a wider array of customers.

Want to see at a glance how much your storage capacity is increasing over time? Or what file type is the culprit? The new My Account section of our website provides a potpourri of tools for assessing your
storage usage. In My Account, you can also tailor your bill notification preferences, generate cost reports, check the status of your subscription, and more. To check it out, simply log in to the site and you’ll land right on your My Account Overview page. Click around on the menu on the left to explore all your options. The graphics are simple and updated in real time. Volumes from multiple providers are presented side by side, so you can easily assess your allocations. We are committed to ease of use, clarity and choice. |

Updates and Customer Service
We are constantly refining the Nasuni Filer. Updates are automatically downloadable through the Filer’s interface. An alert on your Filer’s homepage lets you know an update is available. If you’d also like to receive an email alert for you and your staff, simply configure the Filer to generate one for you. Click on the Configuration menu, then choose Email Settings. Under Email Settings, check the Software Updates box. We strongly encourage you to keep your Filer’s software up to date.
Our proactive customer service style has come as a welcome surprise to our users. Not only do we respond quickly to your support calls, but we sometimes call you first, before you’ve even noticed a problem. Filers in the field send daily logs back to Nasuni so that we can track storage usage and other system functions. If there is a problem in a log or if your Filer doesn’t call home, our support team is alerted automatically and takes immediate action to resolve the issue.

Nasuni had a strong presence at Network World’s IT Roadmap conference in May, and the 1st USENIX Cloud Virtualization Summit. Thanks to everyone who visited us at these events. Andres came back to the office thoroughly energized by your discussions. He was particularly excited by the number of people in IT who have already virtualized their environments and have been tapping their foot, hoping and waiting for a product like Nasuni to arrive.

Since the launch, Nasuni has garnered significant praise from press and analysts: TechRepublic’s Rick Vanover did a great write-up of the Nasuni Filer as a primary storage device. Dan Kusnetzky over at ZDNet praised us for maximizing the cloud’s benefits while protecting against its hazards; Steve Duplessie of ESG lauded our affordability compared with
SAN and declared our caching-the-cloud design the “perfect tiering model.” Thanks to all, and to everyone else who has written about us! We are thrilled to see that the conversation about cloud storage is really heating up.

Our Customers
A broad spectrum of companies—engineering firms, schools, consultancies, and real estate offices, among others—have adopted the Nasuni Filer. We’re very pleased by the number of engineering firms using the Filer for primary storage. These firms generate massive volumes of CAD files, and the headache of managing these files is the pain Nasuni was born to alleviate.
A Wide Range of Use Cases
We’ve been struck and excited by the range of use cases that have already emerged for the Filer. Many customers are deploying the Filer in the most straight-ahead way, as a protected, high-performance primary storage device. We ourselves are using it this way. Some customers are using the Filer to protect and store second copies. One clever customer has set up a hybrid of the two, to serve and protect the files of a school community with complex needs and many roving laptops. In perhaps the most creative use of the Filer to date, a consultancy
is utilizing the Filer to create remote offices without the hassle and expense of an elaborate infrastructure. We are thrilled to see how flexible the product is proving in the field. For our ongoing series of customer use cases, keep an eye on the Nasuni Blog.

Cloud Security Challenge—Still Time to Check It Out!
What does your data look like in the cloud? In early June, we invited skeptics of cloud security to take a look at some of our own files that were written to the cloud with the Nasuni Filer. They are still available for download here. We want everyone to see that we have properly implemented the OpenPGP encryption we rely on to protect against data leakage. OpenPGP itself is well known to be virtually uncrackable, but implementation is critical. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our implementation, we’ve challenged the community to decode these files, among which is a Prize File containing a top-secret message. If anyone successfully reports its contents, that person will win $5,000. The challenge is on until the end of July, when we will claim victory for our rock-solid implementation and donate the money to the Free Software Foundation. |
